Volunteer with Shropshire Supports Refugees

Become a Volunteer

Volunteering at SSR is about far more than giving time — it’s about becoming part of a community that helps people rebuild their lives with dignity, safety and hope.

Volunteers support everything from English classes and clothing provision to outreach, family support and behind‑the‑scenes operations, offering practical help and human warmth to people navigating the asylum and resettlement system.

It’s a chance to make a real, visible difference in Shropshire, to learn new skills, and to stand alongside individuals and families who are starting again after displacement.

We aim to facilitate as many offers of support as possible, including but not exclusively:

  • ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

  • Befriending

  • 1:1 support navigating UK systems

  • Interpreting and Translation

  • Mini Bus Drivers

  • Fundraising

  • Local area orientation across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin

“There is no better exercise for your heart than reaching down and helping to lift someone up.”

“To help the family has been such an amazing experience.  The children are such kind and caring humans.  Mum and Dad are so grateful and generous.  I consider them great friends who would do anything to help as we would to help them.  Its so rewarding and I will continue to support my families and others”      Becky

“Having spent many years myself in a different culture I always treasured opportunities to get to know people from that society and share ideas, knowledge, friendship and general life outlook. SSR has given me the chance to return that. How else would I ever have got to know these amazing people.

We’re often miles apart in beliefs and lifestyles but what matters is seeing people as themselves and sharing laughter and concerns and common humanity.

SSR makes these things possible”      Lorna

“It has meant true friendship - learning about a different culture - celebrating being human - sharing creativity together”
